{"id":45794,"date":"2021-12-01T13:44:16","date_gmt":"2021-12-01T11:44:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vertal.fr\/valorisez-fumiers-et-lisiers-30-pourcent-gain\/"},"modified":"2026-01-28T13:00:59","modified_gmt":"2026-01-28T11:00:59","slug":"increase-the-value-of-your-manure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vertal.fr\/en\/increase-the-value-of-your-manure\/","title":{"rendered":"Increase the value of your manure and slurry by up to 30%"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p>Often underestimated, one tonne of manure is worth between \u20ac12 and \u20ac18 per tonne at current fertiliser (N, P, K) and amendment (Ca, Mg and organic matter) prices.<\/p>\r\n<p>On a farm with a 60-dairy-cow herd (including replacements), this represents 1,500 tonnes of manure produced per year &#8211; equivalent to \u20ac22,500 per year of added value available in the manure store.<\/p>\r\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"banniere-blog-effluent-fumier\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vertal.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/banniere-blog-effluent-fumier.jpg\" alt=\"banniere-blog-effluent-fumier\" \/><\/figure>\r\n<p>To maximise profitability, it is important to:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Produce effluents with the highest possible nutrient content<\/li>\r\n<li>Manage effluents so that as many nutrients as possible are taken up by your crops<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>Let&#8217;s get straight to the point with a case study from a dairy farm in Maine-et-Loire:<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>CONTENTS<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li><a href=\"#partie1\">Current situation<\/a><\/li>\r\n<li><a href=\"#partie2\">Action plan<\/a><\/li>\r\n<li><a href=\"#partie3\">Results<\/a><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h2><strong>Current situation<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<p>At whole-crop rotation level, the farmer, supported by their trusted VERTAL distributor technician, assessed the overall balance between crop nutrient removal, natural soil mineralisation, mineral fertilisers and effluents.<\/p>\r\n<p>The conclusion is clear: out of \u20ac22,500 per year, the farm only makes use of 54% of its effluents, representing a loss of \u20ac10,300.<\/p>\r\n<h2>The action plan<\/h2>\r\n<p>When too rich in ammonia, manure has an immediate fertilising effect that mainly benefits weeds (as seeds have very low nutrient requirements during the germination phase).<\/p>\r\n<p>On this farm, the solution <strong>VERTAL FERTIFUM<\/strong>, which promotes the aerobic evolution of manure, made it possible to maximise the proportion of fertilising elements in organic form in dairy cow manure.<\/p>\r\n<p>This approach is better suited to pre-sowing application and helps limit weed pressure.<\/p>\r\n<p>Manure was applied only to maize at 45 t\/ha, with no application before wheat or catch crops, resulting in a heavy application every other year. This practice, combined with poorly evolved manure (rapidly available), only partially meets crop needs at whole-rotation level and is particularly unsuited to soil biological activity (in the same way that a diet too rich in rapidly fermentable sugars leads to rumen acidosis in dairy cows).<\/p>\r\n<p>On this farm, with the support of their VERTAL distributor technician, the farmer carried out an agronomic diagnosis to identify the soil&#8217;s actual needs and its mineralisation potential, as well as an effluent diagnosis to determine its precise value and fertilisation dynamics, both in spring and autumn.<\/p>\r\n<p>Based on this initial assessment, they jointly defined an application strategy better aligned with crop requirements and soil functioning.<\/p>\r\n<h2>Results<\/h2>\r\n<h3>Implemented for over five years, this strategy has increased effluent utilisation from 54% to 88%, resulting in savings of \u20ac7,600 per year on mineral fertilisers and amendments, with equivalent yields.<\/h3>\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Often underestimated, one tonne of manure is worth between \u20ac12 and \u20ac18 per tonne at current fertiliser (N, P, K) and amendment (Ca, Mg and organic matter) prices.
